More than 280 million people are suffering from food insecurity due to the conflict in the Gaza Strip and Sudan. According to a report by the Food Security Information Network (FSIN), the number of people facing severe acute hunger has increased in 2023 from 24 crore in 2022 due to global climate change events and economic shocks.
Food security problem has become critical in Sudan and Gaza Strip (Gaza Worst Hit). It has also become difficult for the people of this place to get even one-time food. Last year, 7,00,000 people in Gaza were on the brink of starvation. This figure has now increased to 11 lakhs.
The first report on food security was published in 2016. At that time 10.8 crore people were facing the problem of hunger, in 2023 the same number has increased to 28.2 crore. Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Syria and Yemen have experienced food crises over the years.
